Sharecare’s SVP of Clinical Strategy, Dr. Darria Long-Gillespie has penned  an Op-Ed article in response to media coverage of a study from Harvard Medical School about the accuracy of symptom checker apps.

Over the last week there have been stories condemning the use of symptom checkers in lieu of seeing a doctor – but these stories miss the point and misinterpret some valuable information about the study’s results.

In her op-ed, Dr. Gillespie – also a practicing ER doctor at Emory – sheds light on what people need to know about this study: that the right digital health tools can be a great complement to the doctor-patient relationship, not a replacement for it.
