Mary Meeker is a partner at the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. She is also an American venture capitalist and former Wall Street securities analyst whose primary work is focused on Internet and new technologies.
Each year, Meek puts out her annual state of the internet report which offers a look a the latest trends in the industry. The 2017 report offers some interesting data points:
- Roughly half the world’s population (About 3.4 billion people) now use the Internet.
- Approximately 2.8 billion people have smartphones.
- U.S. adults now spend an average 5.6 hours a day watching digital media. More than half that time, 3.1 hours, is spent watching on their phones.
- Global spending on internet advertising is expected to pass TV ad spending for the first time this year.
