SAVANNAH— July 23, 2015– Georgia could soon have its own launching station for space missions. According to county officials, Georgians might be able to expect rocket launches from a spaceport located in Camden County. Local officials have been working on the project for nearly two years, and last month the Camden County Commission approved an option to buy 4,000 acres for the proposed spaceport which would be located on the Interstate-95 corridor next to the Atlantic Ocean.
Business in Savannah reports that in the next 30 days the county will begin an 18-month environmental impact study that will evaluate the potential effect of activities associated with launching a commercial spaceport in Camden County.
