ATLANTA, GA — January 24, 2017— Comcast Business today announced it is now offering DOCSIS 3.1-based internet service to business customers in Atlanta. “Business Internet 1 Gig” and “Business Internet 500” speed tiers are now available to thousands of business customers in the Comcast service area using the company’s existing network, without costly and disruptive construction of new network facilities.
“As a business owner, we rely on technology and the systems required to run consumer-centric commerce,” said Jordy Gamson, CEO of The Ice Box, which has participated in an advance trial of the service in Atlanta. “To be competitive, we now leverage Business Internet gigabit speeds to support our customer experience efforts – it enables us to focus on our business goals while letting Comcast handle our digital needs.”
For small and mid-sized businesses in buildings already served by Comcast, upgrading to Business Internet 1 Gig or Business Internet 500 is as simple as calling Comcast or visiting www.business.comcast.com/gig to change their service, and ordering a new modem. Gigabit service over DOCSIS 3.1 benefits industries such as retail, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, education and government.
“Today’s announcement is a milestone for the business community in Atlanta, and we couldn’t be more excited to deliver this unique mix of speed and performance,” said Michelle Pluskota, Vice President of Business Services for Comcast. “In particular, these new speed tiers will provide businesses who support multiple locations a high capacity solution over a secure, high speed network.”
With the addition of Business Internet 1 Gig and Business Internet 500, Comcast has the potential to deploy gigabit service more widely across its network and reach more customers. The new tiers of service complement other multi-gigabit options already available to Comcast Business customers, including Comcast Business Ethernet, which the company launched and has been expanding nationally since 2011. Those services can support speeds of 100 gigabits per second over fiber.
“With more business operations moving to a cloud-based model, staying ahead of the bandwidth curve will be an important part of an organization’s migration strategy,” said Matt Davis, program director for IDC. “DOCSIS 3.1-based internet will give small, medium and even larger organizations the opportunity to quickly add more network capacity at their locations, supporting new technology applications on-site or in the cloud.”
Alex Horwitz, Vice President of Public Relations at Comcast, also noted the significance of the launch. “With technology becoming more of a top consideration for companies looking to relocate or expand, today’s news solidifies Atlanta as a great place to do business for those wanting the most advanced services.”
Comcast Business also launched Business Internet 1 Gig and Business Internet 500 in Chicago, Detroit and Nashville today, and has additional plans to launch in the majority of its service areas throughout 2017 and 2018. Pricing for the service varies based on location, and customers can contact their local Comcast Business salesperson or agent/partner for more information.
