Hi-Rez Studios Kicks off Super Regionals Esports Tournament




ALPHARETTA, GA– November 17, 2016– Hi-Rez Studios in Alpharetta, Georgia, is gearing up for Hi-Rez Expo (HRX) in January, where over $1 million in prize money will be awarded to professional gamers from across the globe. But first, aspiring players will go head to head at the SMITE Super Regionals, a playoffs tournament to determine which teams are worthy of the Smite World Championship.

The SMITE Super Regionals will take place Nov. 16- 20 at the Hi-Rez Studios esports arena in Alpharetta. The tournament is structured as a bracketed playoffs event which will pit professional SMITE teams against one another for their chance to compete in the Smite World Championships. These teams are made up of the best SMITE players from North America and Europe, and most players have sponsorships and contracts which allow them to play SMITE professionally as a full time job. This is the third season of SMITE pro leagues, and altogether over $3 million will be awarded to professional SMITE players this year.

Space is limited at the studio, but press is welcome to RSVP to attend any day of the SMITE Super Regionals. Fans at home are encouraged to watch the tournament online at Twitch.com/hireztv. Matches start at 1 PM (EST) daily. In addition to the esports competitions, Hi-Rez Studios is also inviting press to play the newly announced SMITE Tactic for the first time. SMITE Tactics is a turn-based strategy game featuring the familiar cast of characters from SMITE.

The Super Regionals is the last in a series of esports events leading up to Hi-Rez Expo (HRX.) HRX is a celebration of fans, community and eSports held every year in January. This year it will feature both the third annual Smite World Championship and the inaugural Paladins Invitational .SMITE and Paladins fans will come together Jan. 5-8 for HRX 2017. The event will be held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center and has sold out in recent years with around 3,000 tickets sold. Esports fans, professional gamers, and international press travel from all over the world to the Atlanta area for this event.

SMITE and Paladins are both multi-player online games developed and published by Hi-Rez Studios in Alpharetta, GA. Hi-Rez Studios employs over 275 people and is expanding rapidly.
