HiRez Studios to host Super Regionals esports tournament for hit game SMITE

ATLANTA –Oct. 20, 2015— Local game developer Hi-Rez Studios announced a six day esports tournament which will combine both the North American and European regional finals for its hit game SMITE. SMITE is an online multiplayer game for the Windows PC and XBox One and has over 10 million registered players worldwide. The upcoming esports tournament features the six best teams from across North America and the six best teams from Europe, and will unfold at the studio’s Alpharetta based esports facility November 17th 22nd. The live competition will be broadcast over digital channels on both Twitch.TV and YouTube Gaming.

“Competitive gaming is one of the fastest growing spectator events in the world, with an audience of over 125 million people”, says Todd Harris, HiRez Studios Chief Operating Officer. “We’ve been hosting SMITE esports events in metro Atlanta since 2013 and believe Atlanta will become the East Coast destination for esports”.

“Hi-Rez has been an incredible leader in cultivating visibility and fan base in esports both nationally and internationally,” said David Hartnett, Vice President of Economic Development at the Metro Atlanta Chamber. “It’s only fitting that a techcentric city that hosted the Olympic Games in
1996 should lead the way for global esports.”

The Super Regional tournament will be a crucial turning point for many of the teams competing in the second season of the Smite Pro League. A prizepool of over $450,000 will be on the line, and the top 5 teams will progress to the SMITE World Championship in January, where the prize pool will be $1,000,000.
