LAN Systems hosted its annual Green IT Earth Day event at its offices last week. The event was in celebration of Earth Day and collected e-waste for recycling.
“This year, we collected over 6,000 pounds of e-waste. That’s the most ever in one day,” said CEO Mary Hester. “We kept 3 tons out of the landfill and all proceeds will go to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation to support their wonderful organization.”
Each year, LAN Systems donates all eRecycling proceeds to a local non-profit organization and this year Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation was selected. GFBF is one of the highest rated charities in Georgia, the GFBF was founded in 1982 to help burn survivors in their journey of recovery and to provide fire safety and prevention.
In addition to eRecycling, the celebration included food from the grill, technology fortunes by Naja Elieva and cotton candy served by the GFBF. The eRecycling includes no-charge hard drive shredding to keep electronic data safe.
Earth Day is an annual day on which events are held worldwide to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth’s natural environment. Earth Day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year.
