ATLANTA – March 31, 2016 – Fragmented devices and enterprise security are two mobile app development and testing trends to watch in 2016 according to an informal survey of 10 industry experts conducted by Mobile Labs, a leading provider of enterprise-grade mobile testing solutions.
Enterprise development and delivery teams are under pressure to keep up with increasing demand for the rapid development of high quality mobile applications. As a result, businesses need efficient methods to develop and test mobile applications.
Panel participants identified challenges ranging from cross-device compatibility, as apps will now need to perform on platforms from smartphones to wearables, to testing in the wild, wherein developers need to test apps in the same environments in which their customers will be using them. However, two primary themes emerged in the conversation: enterprise security as well as the fragmentation of devices and operating systems.
According to OpenSignal, Android now has more than 24,000 unique devices, six times as many as in 2012. As platforms grow in new directions and across varying devices, testing becomes more of a challenge for developers.
While fragmentation continues to cause increasing concern, the problem of enterprise security has been weighing heavily on developers for many years now. As the bring-your-own-device movement gains popularity and employees continue installing arbitrary apps, security threats loom even larger.
“In today’s climate of growing device and operating system fragmentation, as well as rising security challenges, Mobile Labs is proud that our deviceConnect mobile testing solution is able to solve both of these enterprise concerns,” said Don Addington, president and CEO of Mobile Labs. “Our team of mobile experts consistently ensures our solutions and services stay ahead of industry trends to meet future enterprise needs.”
