Millions of smartphone owners engage socially with Snapchat, the popular quick-video, photo filter and augmented reality app that lets users share their stories in real time. Food and beverage producers are taking home advantage of the platform’s reach and appeal with young sports fans: Frito-Lay offers a weekly off-field competition in which franchise lovers can use their Snapchat app to win prizes. A Snap code is embedded in the packaging of specially marked snack packs, which fans can “snap” as a photo in the app. They’ll then be randomly assigned an NFL team. If that team wins their designated game that week, fans win a variety of rewards ranging from game day discounts to Super Bowl tickets.
Not to be outdone, Bud Light also recently launched a Snapchat campaign around its newly minted NFL franchise-themed cans. This year’s unique team can and aluminum bottle design prominently features each team logo, a catch phrase to cheer them on, and Snapcodes. Consumers snap a photo and unlock a chance to win Super Bowl LII tickets, an interactive Bud Bowl-style game and team-specific Snapchat filters.
Both Frito-Lay and Anheuser-Busch have major distribution centers and plants located in Georgia– One of Frito-Lays’ largest manufacturing plants is based in Perry, Georgia. Anheuser-Busch, Inc. has a large brewery in Cartersville, Georgia.
Delta Air Lines is once again taking interactive customer experience to the next level. At Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in D.C., the company has successfully piloted video chat to allow customers to talk directly to flights and reservation specialists.
Major telecommunications provider Cox Communications has acquired Blueprint RF, an IT solutions company for leading US hotel brands, based in Norcross, Georgia. This move allows Cox to bolster its Hospitality Network™, expanding its overall services for wired and wireless networks, and ensuring top-quality hotel telecommunications, in-room entertainment and WiFi solutions.
PureFlavor, a Canadian company known for its greenhouse produce, is building a state-of-the-art, high-tech 75-acre greenhouse complex in Peach County, Georgia–the largest facility of its kind in the Southeast. This includes installation of high pressure sodium lighting and other modern amenities. It is projected to bring $105 million and 200 jobs to the Middle Georgia region over the next five years.
