Downtown Augusta’s YMCA Building bought by Tax-Prep Software Company

AUGUSTA, GA — June 23, 2017–  TaxSlayer, a privately held company providing online tax preparation technology and services, has purchased the Family YMCA building located in Downtown Augusta. The company, founded in  Augusta in 1965 as the tax preparation business Rhodes-Murphy & Co., is currently based in a 5-story office building located in the Greater Augusta region.

According to the Augusta Chronicle, financial terms of the sale for the 94-year old YMCA building were not immediately disclosed.

The purchase is more good news to  Augusta’s growing tech ecosystem  which includes web site designer Powerserve; software developer Rural Sourcing Inc.; Digital signage startup, Mealviewer, the makerspace and Fortune 1000 company Unisys.  The presence of the new US Army Cyber Command  at nearby Fort Gordon looms large as new developments such as the Augusta Cyber Works at Augusta’s historic Sibley Mill, The new Augusta Innovation Zone and the $50m Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center are currently underway.
