Beginning next month, the city of Atlanta will be offering the option for patrons to pay their Atlanta Streetcar fare via a mobile application.
The application is being developed by Portland based company, GlobeSherpa for a payment of $177,272. Although the app was intended to launch at the beginning of the year, the development is continuing and is prepared to roll out come Spring.
Currently, people are abiding by the Streetcar honor system, paying a dollar at a vending machine. With the app, intentions are to eliminate the paper ticket.
“You’ll be able to purchase tickets for single-ride; day passes; five, seven or 30-day passes through your phone and you’ll have a validation on your phone so that when you are asked to show your ticket, it will be on your phone,” says Melissa Mullinax, senior advisor to Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.
