Tech Companies in Georgia Raised Over 275K Meals for Food Banks



ATLANTA, GA – July 18, 2017— The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) and Hub Magazine’s Food Technology feature, Bytes, have announced the results and winners of the second annual Bytes for Bites food and fund drive competition, which benefits the food banks that comprise the Georgia Food Bank Association.

The second annual Bytes for Bites competition raised $67,773 and 4,352 pounds of food for the Georgia Food Bank Association, surpassing their goal of $50,000. This is the equivalent of 275,158 meals that Georgia’s food banks will be able to distribute to the families and children they serve across the state.

The Grand Prize TAG Cup Winners of this year’s competition are Aaron’s, Inc. (Atlanta) with 109,731 points, the most points of any company across the state, and first-time competitor Degreed (Atlanta) with 5,062 points per employee, the most per employee of any company across the state. In addition to the highest point total in the state, Aaron’s, Inc.  raised nearly $22,000 during the two-week competition. To determine the winners, each dollar raised equates to four pounds of food in the competition totals.

Statewide, over 3,000 members of the technology industry went head-to-head to see who could raise the most food and funds during the competition.

Bytes for Bites (B4) is a Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) Day of Service event in partnership with TAG’s Hub Bytes publication and the Georgia Food Banks Association. The event enlists the aide of the technology industry in the fight against hunger during the summer months when demand for food assistance is at its highest. Over 60% of children in Georgia are eligible for free or reduced lunches during the school year, but less than 15% of them have access to these meals during the summer, making it difficult for families to put enough food on the table.
